Blended learning, also called “flipped classroom,” “hybrid learning” or “mixed learning,” is an approach that mixes instructor-led classroom training with online content, usually in the form of on-demand videos that learners review outside of class. The live instruction can be face-to-face or online via a live virtual classroom, or there might be no live lecture at all.
Blended learning represents a fundamental shift in instruction methods. It has the potential to optimize outcomes for individual students in ways that traditional instruction can’t. Blended delivery modes allow for each aspect to be taught using the most appropriate medium for the topic at that particular stage in the training.
As time and generations change, so does the way we learn. Thus, it is important to create a training environment conducive to learning and utilise facilitation methods to which learners can easily adapt and which are compatible with learner needs. At JH Skills Development and Consultancy, we embraced this, hence we expanded our traditional classroom training to incorporate blended learning.
Blended learning combines online/digital media with traditional classroom methods. Although both the facilitator and learner are present during the training sessions, this methodology allows the learner certain elements of control pertaining to the management of their time and pace.
JH Skills Development and Consultancy uses the “face-to-face driver” model of blended learning. This means the facilitator drives the instruction and augments the content with digital tools. Irrespective of this, all learners are provided with hard-copies of all manuals, guides and assessments.
Blended learning allows learners and sponsors to save money, study from their comfort zone, and access assignments, formative assessments and summative assessments more easily.
